About Andrzej Baturo
I started to take photos in 1950s., although I found recently a photo taken by my cousin, showing me with a folding camera, that was probably taken in late 1940s. My fully conscious photography began in 1950/60s. First I was interested in the aesthetic, FIAP photography, but after I had viewed the "The Family of Man” exhibition I started to be fascinated with reportage. I later took a job I as a journalist in an editorial team of the informational division in Olsztyn.
Afterwards I became a photojournalist. Of course, taking photos gave me much more satisfaction than writing.
I have always tried to compose multi-photo sequences, called photo-reportages. Some of them, like “Motocross”
or “Listening to Frombork Pipe Organ” I used to submit in contests and they won prizes.
At the end of the 1960s I got to know photo journalists from the student weekly ”ITD”. They shaped my photographic consciousness in realising that through photography I can discuss important social themes and show pathological phenomena.
