Sterz |
Statement
Sterz uses subjects of natural phenomena, typically, light and color, and movement for his installations. Intended always to accommodate the viewer and elicit a spontaneous aesthetic response, Sterz directs the gaze towards the infinite variety and power of the natural world. His use of industrial materials and installation techniques give the work a playful, childlike approach; yet recede in the presence of the subject matter - the reminder of nature's presence within and without the self. The intention is to stimulate emotion with visual information.
The fluid imagery often evoke the reverie one feels in the natural world, the play of light on water, the ephemeral nature of color and light contrasting with the endurance of matter. Ultimately, it explores the highly charged and complex intersection between the informal and industrial, the corporeal and the emotional, the temporal and the ephemeral.
