The Exhibition: “Ezeiza Zone”

No comparto, dice Garay.

Where does the center end and where do the suburbs begin? The dividing line is conventional. Gálvez Boulevard, let's say. But any of us knows very well, because we were born here and have lived here and therefore know the city by heart, that to the north of Gálvez Boulevard there are many things that could easily be in the center: multi-story houses, monoblocks, businesses, good families. And where does the city end? Not on the road, because people who live beyond the road say, when asked where they live, they reply I live in the city. Therefore, there are no zones.I don't understand, Lescano concludes, how can one be faithful to a region if there are no regions.
I do not agree, says Garay.

The images I am showing here belong to a project I have been working on since 2017, called “Ezeiza Zone”. Ezeiza is a suburban city situated 35km away from Buenos Aires, the Capital of Argentina. I have lived there for eleven years.
The intention of this project is to give a leading role to the gesture of the body and the gaze in the photographic act, subordinating the mind to the eye´s reaction to what moves you.
Ezeiza is a city where the rural areas, the city, the mud, the asphalt, are all mixed. The big skies of the Pampa Plain roof a landscape where I move with confidence and perplexity at the same time. The camera helps me to affirm the “here and now” but it also raises questions about how I see what reality shows me and what might mean ( to me) or teach (me) the representation of that reality in a photograph.
Photography for me is a kind of art and being so I respect it. I respect its language, its masters, it’s mysteries.
Concerning my work I try to complete what it communicates with the interpretation and assessment that people make of it.
