In the 21st century we can now learn and teach differently than in the past. The Internet, cloud technologies, and engaging interactive environments, combined with a learner centered philosophy, engage teachers and learners alike in effective learning environments.
We are able to teach and learn about photography and the lens culture on a scale that is global and cross-cultural. Bringing people together from diverse cultural backgrounds and geographical locations enriches the learning process and brings new challenges to the teaching process.
The "Teaching Photography Certificate Program" is designed for individuals who are currently teaching and wish to further their skills, and for those who wish to pursue a career in teaching photography in higher education, museum settings, photography centers, and other venues.
The program of study, through a series of online interactive workshops/seminars, addresses issues, ideas, and methods for building a photography curriculum and program. The program of study includes the design of a foundation course in photography, the teaching of criticism and analysis of images, teaching the history of photography, teaching blended and online photography courses, teaching commercial skills and the business of photography, and addressing issues and possibilities in photographic education.
Teaching Photography Certificate Program includes the following 6 workshops/seminars:
• The Practice of teaching photography
• Building a foundation to teaching photography
• Teaching the criticism of photography
• Issues related to teaching the history of photography
• Developing an online photography program
• Seminar: issues and trends in the teaching of photography (invited speakers)
